Overview of Landscale:

LandScale is an innovative global initiative, co-lead by the Rainforest Alliance and Conservation International, which aims to drive improvements in sustainability at landscape scale. To do this, LandScale offers an integrated system to assess and communicate trusted information about landscape sustainability, comprising a rigorous sustainability assessment framework, detailed guidance, an online platform, and a validation mechanism. The LandScale system is available to any organization convening, implementing, or financing work to improve sustainability at landscape scale.  In addition to scaling the use of the LandScale system, the initiative is working to demonstrate that the information generated by LandScale assessments can form the basis for innovative market, financial and policy mechanisms (e.g., sustainability linked loans, payment for ecosystem services, preferential sourcing) that can incentivize the actions needed to deliver improvements in sustainability at landscape scale. LandScale is developing a fee-based business model with the aim of becoming self-financing as soon as possible.

Position summary:We are seeking a highly organized, detail-orientated, and collaborative sustainability specialist to support the delivery of LandScale’s assessment and claims validation, training, and associated services, and to promote LandScale and recruit new users, particularly in Latin America. They will play a critical role in ensuring that the LandScale system is user-friendly, customer service oriented, and meets the needs of our target market.


Technical support to LandScale users

  • Lead the delivery of LandScale’s technical support, validation, training, and other services throughout the entire LandScale customer experience.

  • Supervise, train, and support regional officers to deliver technical support, validation, training, and other services as LandScale’s team and customer base grow.

  • Coordinate with the Business Development Manager and LandScale’s regional officers to ensure LandScale users have an optimal experience throughout the process of deciding to use LandScale and conducting an assessment.

  • Lead the development and implementation of internal management systems and with the Technical Manager develop resources to ensure excellence in the delivery of technical support, validation, training, and other services to LandScale users.

  • Coordinate the development, signing and payment of proposals and service agreements and ensure that up-to-date records are maintained for each user;

  • Support the LandScale Technical manager in developing updates to the LandScale indicator framework, guidelines, validation mechanism and assessment resources as needed;

  • Manage and build LandScale’s online Community of Practice and the Open Door session to foster useful knowledge exchange and learning among LandScale users;

  • Add the feedback received from users to the “feedback tracker” to document situations and decisions, and keep it updated.

Business Development

  • In coordination with the Business Development & Innovation Manager, promote LandScale and recruit new users;

  • Represent LandScale in meetings with internal and external stakeholders, attend conferences, and give presentations as needed;

Product Development

  • Provide recommendations to the Product Manager and contribute to the development of specifications for platform improvements or new functionality that would optimise the LandScale assessment and validation experience.

  • Identify areas for improvement of the platform, as well as actions and tools to streamline the process and the assessments.

  • Support the product manager to address technical issues of the LandScale platform to provide feedback & recommendations for the management and development of platform improvements, as well as to seek strategic partnerships for platform collaborations.


  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, agriculture, natural resources, environmental management, international development, social sciences economics, or a related field;

  • At least three years of progressively responsible professional experience, preferably with experience in the delivery of sustainability standards or initiatives;

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and relationships in a time sensitive manner;

  • Broad understanding of key environmental and socio-economic impact assessment methodologies, datasets, and data visualization tools;

  • Strong attention to detail. Experience of auditing, or developing management procedures and technical guidelines would be beneficial.

  • Experience developing and delivering clear and engaging virtual and in-person training;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals in a largely remote setting;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, French or Bahasa would be a plus.

  • Experience of working with digital products would be advantageous

  • Experience of working in a customer facing role and/or a start-up environment is a plus;

  • Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally, as required;
